The Fifth Toy Story Film Trailer Sets The Beloved Duo Versus a Tablet Computer
Exactly 30 years since the first Toy Story movie debuted, establishing Pixar as a leading film company and bringing audiences to iconic figures like the cowboy doll (the actor) and Buzz Lightyear (the voice talent), who are now famous worldwide.
Coming in 2026, the next chapter is scheduled for release. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 appeared this week, offering a glimpse into the plot but keeping viewers curious how it will address the ending of Toy Story 4.
The Latest Addition: A Digital Device Frightens the Toys
The preview reveals Bonnie — who inherited the toy collection when he left for college — getting a latest toy, one that alarms the familiar toy group. Bonnie acquires her first tablet computer, and she is excited about it.
Presumably, the amphibian-inspired device will come to life just like Bonnie's other toys. Still, the characters seem to view it as a threat intending to supplant them, which it likely will.
Woody's Return: Mysteries from Toy Story 4
An element the teaser avoids is why Woody is returned with his friends in Bonnie's room. The finale of Toy Story 4 saw him embark on a fresh journey with the shepherdess (Annie Potts), journeying with a carnival and helping giveaway items locate loving owners.
Surely, Pixar will explain the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the film. Witnessing him show up in the familiar setting unexpectedly is a little strange, however. It also raises questions whether Bo Peep will have returned with Woody. And where is the stuntman toy (Keanu Reeves)?
Connections from the Previous Film
At the very least, some aspects are continuing from the prior film. The final act Woody did before departing for his new life was hand over his sheriff badge to Jessie (Joan Cusack), leaving her as the leader of Bonnie's bedroom. The clip displays the badge attached to her outfit.
It is hoped she is still the driving force among the group.
Toy Story 5 arrives in theaters on June 19, 2026.
